Frequently Asked Questions - New CE Daily Report (Excel and JSON Format)
Please access the link below to get more information on the Daily Reports:
-
What are the available formats for the Covered Entity Daily Report?
The legacy Covered Entity Daily Report will no longer be available starting 3/30/2024. The legacy CE Daily Report has been replaced by the new Covered Entity Daily Report which is available in 2 formats – Microsoft Excel and JSON. -
What is the JSON Covered Entity Daily Report?
The JSON export includes the same information available in the Covered Entity Daily Report Excel spreadsheet. However, all data is available within the covered entity, including shipping addresses and contract pharmacies. There will always be at least one address per covered entity under shipping addresses as the340B ID A unique identification number assigned by OPA to each covered entity parent or child site (e.g., child site, subdivisions, or sub-grantees). Street Address is reported for each covered entity. Participating and non-participating contract pharmacies, if any, will also be listed in the JSON.

For users who were manually accessing the legacy Covered Entity Daily Report, which report, or format should I use?
Users who were accessing the legacy Covered Entity Daily Report manually, please start using the new CE Daily Report in excel format. It contains the same information as the legacy CE Daily Report, but the covered entity information is displayed in three separate worksheets. See answers to Question 5 for more information. -
For users who were downloading the legacy CE Daily Report automatically, which report or format should I use?
If you were automatically downloading the legacy CE Daily Report, please update your process to access the new CE Daily Report. You can use either the Microsoft Excel or the JSON format. The JSON format of the CE Daily Report has been added specifically for automated downloads and processing. See answers to question 2 for more information. -
What is the difference between the legacy CE Daily Report and the new CE Daily Report?
The new version contains the same data that is in the Legacy version but in a much smaller file that is easier to use. The file is smaller because it does not have the duplication of data present in the legacy version. The new CE Daily Report displays the information on covered entities, shipping addresses and contract pharmacies in three separate worksheets instead of a single worksheet. Since each covered entity can have one or more shipping addresses and contract pharmacies, it caused duplication of covered entity records in the legacy version resulting in a huge file size. -
Are there other means of acquiring the JSON report from your OPAIS?
There is no separate API / webservice for programmatic access by external vendors at this time. -
We saw that the clicking the report button is making an http:post request. Will external vendors be able to access that directly?
No and yes, Security and other constraints mean that a simple HTTP Post cannot be constructed without getting the page through that sort of process. See the answer for question 8 for how a POST can be generated that will retrieve the report. -
We heard there are vendors that use these same reports, may we please know how they access it programmatically?
Other external vendors are accessing the JSON report programmatically by using UI automation tools like Selenium to access the page, click on the button and initiate the download. There are many options for those tools, Selenium is just one example of those. -
What are the security expectations for using your webpage?
The public web page is anonymously accessible. Postbacks and button clicks must be done in the context of a current session and view state. Recorded postback events will not work correctly if played back. -
Is there any limitation on how many times the report can be retrieved in a day?
Technically, the system does not currently limit the downloads, however, more than once a day has no value because the content of the report is only updated once per day (between midnight and 2AM ET). Most vendors download it once early in the day or once a week.
